Red, Red Wine

I’m loving red wine right now. It could be because it’s technically winter and red wine always sounds better when it’s cold outside. (We still get the occasional summer day in Santa Monica but that’s beside the point). Or maybe it’s because one of my resolutions is to get healthier, and drinking red wine is a great way to do that. Or it could be that I think my teeth are too white and I want them brought down a shade or two.

Whatever the reason, it’s time for red wine!

Here’s what I’m drinking:

Cain Cuvee, Napa Valley, CA NV3 The “NV” stands for “non-vintage” which means the wine is made from grapes that were harvested in different years. This wine is made from grapes grown in 2002 and 2003. And the grapes come from different areas in Napa.

The winery states that: “Cain Cuvée (cue-vay means “blend”) is a new style of Cabernet blend. It’s 46% merlot grapes, 41% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, and 13% Cabernet Franc grapes. This wine is not about big oak and inky, drying tannins. In Cain Cuvée, we look for bright aromas to combine with a mouthwateringly fresh palate and a silky finish—just the thing to complement today’s lighter and spicier dishes.”

I was going to pair it with some Turkey Bolgnese I was making, but I ended up drinking it all before I finished cooking. It’s very smooth and I know it would have paired perfectly!

You can find it for anywhere between $23-27 and worth every penny. details

Black Box Wines-Shiraz, Barossa Valley, Australia Think outside – or inside – the box! This 2004 Shiraz comes from South Australia, one of the greatest Shiraz growing regions in Australia.

According to Black Box, “Shiraz is a wine known for its spicy, full bodied character. Our Shiraz has deep aromas of dark cherries and spicy oak complemented by rich flavors of blackcurrant with hints of liquorice and vanilla oak. The finish is long and warm.”

This box (yes, BOX) of wine contains 3 liters of wine, which is equal to 4 regular 750ml bottles of wine. (In my house that lasts about 2 days max). I paired it with a grilled New York Steak and a spicy Asian salad. Perfect!

You can get it online or in many grocery stores from $18 - $21 Check out their website for more information. A definite bargain!

Cheers!

Lynne
