Santa’s Favorites
Santa is the kind of guy who gets around, so I wonder what he will be drinking this Christmas? After all, anyone who can go around the world in a single night must have some great ideas for fuel!
I pulled some strings, used a few connections and got some answers (I live in LA - you gotta have connections).
Here are Santa’s Top 3 drinks for the holidays:
- Mulled Wine. You actually have to cook this one, but it’s worth it! Take 2 bottles of dry red wine (like a merlot or syrah), 4 ounces of port or brandy, 12 whole cloves , 4 cinnamon sticks , and the zest of 1 large orange. Combine the ingredients in a large pot and bring it to a simmer. Don’t allow the mixture to boil. Heat for 20 minutes and serve in a large, heat resistant punch bowl garnished with cinnamon sticks. (Now we know how Santa stays warm!) This should serve around 8-12 people.
- Candy Cane Champagne. It’s similar to a Mimosa but instead of orange juice, you use peppermint schnapps. In a champagne flute, first pour in a little schnapps (and I mean LITTLE– it is very concentrated). Then top it off with champagne. If you’re feeling festive, you can garnish with a little candy cane.
- Cranberry Wine Spritzer. This is like a normal wine spritzer with an added splash of cranberry juice. Grab a big glass, throw in some ice and club soda and a nice, crisp white wine like a Pinot Grigio. Then add a splash of cranberry juice. Not only is it tasty - I like to think it’s healthy for you too.
So get in the holiday spirit and party Santa's way! You might want to leave a little out for him on Christmas Eve. It never hurts to win a few points with the big guy.
Cheers and Merry Christmas.
