Cinco de Wino

Feliz Cinco de Mayo! (Happy May 5th for you gringos). This is a day celebrated by many, but few know why. And everyone mistakenly thinks that you must celebrate by drinking margaritas, shots of tequila or Mexican beer. I say put down the bottle of tequila - no good can come from it. Grab a bottle of white wine instead, and toast Mexico with a wine margarita!

Here are some of my favorites:

Paul's Top Shelf Frozen Wine Margarita (for those of you who love a good brain freeze!)
One 12-ounce can of frozen lime concentrate
One bottle of Chardonnay

Allow lime concentrate to thaw overnight in refrigerator. Mix three parts wine to one part lime concentrate. Pour mixture into clear plastic cups, cover, and place on the top shelf of your freezer until frozen. Serve with spoons and garnish with lime.

Wine Margarita on Rocks
6 ounces white wine
4 ounces Triple Sec or Cointreau
Half cup of lime juice
Shake in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Pour into a glass that has been rimmed with margarita salt. Garnish with a lime wedge & a Mexican flag if you're feeling crazy.

Enjoy these very special margaritas and celebrate Cinco de Mayo the right way!

Cheers!

P.S. If you're wondering, Cinco de Mayo marks the day that France attacked Mexico with a full army and Mexico won with one little cannon. I call that a truly good reason to celebrate!
