Caught in a Conundrum

One of the most puzzling questions I'm asked is "what's your favorite wine?" I never know exactly how to answer it. At that moment it will be one wine, but 10 minutes later it might be something else. What I drink changes with my mood, the weather, the food I'm eating, who I'm with, and sometimes what's left in my house. That's what makes it so fun; you just never know what's going to be in my glass.

And that reminds me of a wine I had this week that I really enjoyed. I will definitely be drinking it again very soon. It could be the crazy story behind this wine. Or maybe it's because summer is coming and that gets me excited about drinking refreshing white wines. Either way, definitely check this one out.

Caymus Conundrum White Table Wine, 2005, California.
It's not named "Conundrum" without good reason. This is truly a wine with a twisted plot and a delicious outcome.

Blended wines go way back. But the Conundrum wine makers don't stop at just combining a variety of grapes -- Savignon Blanc, Muscat Cannelli, Viognier and Chardonnay to be exact. They also combine grapes from different regions in California - Napa, Monterey, Santa Barbara and Tulare Counties. And, to make it even more unique, they take different batches of the wine and ferment some in stainless steel and others in oak (both new and old) before blending it all together in perfect harmony.

If that's not a puzzle, I don't know what is. These guys don't settle for the ordinary. They take calculated twists and turns in the way the wine is made. When you taste it, you'll see how their creativity pays off.

Conundrum White Table Wine will give you the essence of apricots, peaches, green melons, pears, tropical fruits, honeysuckle, and spicy vanilla to name a few. Be aware, it's a slightly sweet wine which pairs well with spicy, zesty dishes. Or enjoy this complex wine alone to appreciate the simple things in life.
