Lighten up!

Summer Solstice is here! By definition, the Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year and marks the official beginning of summer. Although here in Santa Monica it feels like summer everyday-sorry you snow folk!

But what it means for me is more daylight hours on my deck to enjoy my favorite summer wines. I may throw in some cheese and crackers for a celebration. I'm crazy like that.

Lots of people change their closets to accommodate winter and summer wardrobes. Not me. I change my wine. As most of you know, I love to drink reds in the winter and whites in the summer. So this means I'm going to back to whites!

Ladies-it's bathing suit time. Guys, dust off your speedos and say hello to summer! What do you need to get that body back into bathing suit shape? White wine, of course! It might not actually help you get in shape, but it will definitely make you feel better.

Here's what I'll be sipping on my sunny deck:

Groth Sauvignon Blanc, 2006, Napa Valley, CA
There is nothing better to quench your thirst on a hot summer's day than a crisp and refreshing Sauvignon Blanc. This is one of my all time favorites. You'll taste grapefruit, citrus and even a touch of ripe figs. Who could ask for more? Try pairing it with Havariti cheese, Prosciutto wrapped melon or a seasonal salad. Retails for around $13. What a bargain!

I don't know about you, but I'm grabbing my wine tote (with several bottles of wine and all my tools), sunscreen, my bathing suit (that makes me look like Cindy Crawford of course) and heading to the beach to celebrate the beginning of summer. Happy Summer Solstice!

Cheers!
