Up-Scale Chards

I recently heard someone proclaim "Life is too short to drink cheap wine" I wish I had the bank account to only drink expensive wines but hey, I'm a working girl and there are tons of affordable wines to enjoy on a daily basis. But let's go crazy and dream of some expensive Chardonnays and indulge if you get the chance.

If money were no object, there are some amazing wines out there for $50 and up. "What makes it cost more?" you ask. You are paying more for the finest grapes, high ranking or reviews, awards won, good name recognition, an amazing region or just really good marketing!

Thank goodness there are a lot of affordable Chardonnay's out there for me, since money is indeed an object. But if I were going to splurge, here's some I would drink:

Patz & Hall Chardonnay Dutton Ranch, Sonoma, CA '05
The Wine Spectator can spot a winner and, they rated this wine 92 points. I agree with them! You'll get apple, fig, melon, grapefruit and some great oak. Try pairing with crab, scallops, grilled chicken and medium cheeses. Retails for around $40.

Far Niente Chardonnay, Napa Valley, CA '05
This wine is always a treat to have. It's got huge name recognition, not to mention a flashy label. You'll get melon, spice, fig, hazelnuts and some tropical fruits. Try pairing with pork, tuna nicoise salad and cured meats. Retails for around $55.

So go ahead and splurge once in awhile. You're worth it! And just let me know when you are going to pour the good stuff and I'll be there! I'm worth it too!

Cheers!
